Certified Public Manager of the Year
DUBLIN, OH – At the annual leadership conference of the Ohio Certified Public Manager Society, President Irene Barnett, CPM, revealed her selection of the Certified Public Manager (CPM) of the Year Award for 2015. Each year, one outstanding CPM is selected by the Society President for recognition. Criteria for this award includes exemplifying the Certified Public Manager designation in the performance of regular job duties and in extending themselves to assist other areas of government, regular application and modeling of the CPM training’s core competencies, and being of high character. “Janet has truly embraced and demonstrated the excellence in leadership that is the hallmark of being a CPM professional,” says President Barnett.
This award is the highest honor bestowed by the Ohio CPM Society and can be awarded to any CPM in federal, state, county, township, or city public service within Ohio. This year’s CPM of the Year was awarded to Janet Cool, CPM, of the state agency Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (formerly known as Rehabilitative Services Commission). Janet served as Conference Chairperson for the Ohio CPM Society which supports and mentors the DAS OCPM training program and CPMs throughout Ohio. Janet thanked Kevin Miller, Executive Director, and Therese Dyer, CPM, Chief Financial Officer, for supporting her and other CPMs in their professional development. A desk clock with engraving was presented to Janet to commemorate her appointment as CPM of the Year.
2015 President’s Award Recipients Honored
At the annual leadership conference of the Ohio Certified Public Manager Society, President Irene Barnett, CPM, revealed her selection for the 2015 President’s Award. Each year, an OCPM training program final presentation team is selected by the Society President for recognition. Criteria includes exemplifying the Certified Public Manager designation in the application of the training’s core competencies and most thorough utilization of the 18-month training program content while producing noteworthy results in their final presentation. The award is not for project management but rather demonstration of all learning objectives concluded by logical results.
The final presentation awarded honors was one of several completed by recent graduates of the Ohio Certified Public Manager training program which is provided by the Ohio Department of Administrative Services to federal, state, and local public managers upon acceptance into the program. The team sponsored by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections (ODRC) formulated and implemented a strategic plan for the reintegration of higher security level inmates being released directly to Ohio communities. The team provided ODRC with a strategic plan that promotes ODRC’s mission and vision by supplying individuals with the skills needed to be a productive member of society.
Award recipients include: Irene C. Lyons, CPM, Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections, Sarah Harter, CPM, Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, Christina Miller, CPM, Ohio Department of Aging, and Scott McFadden, CPM, Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation. Art glass on marble bases were presented to each team member able to attend with their leadership present in support.
